Completely Dreadful

Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real train wreck. We tried to {compensate|mitigate the situation, but it was like trying to stop a blizzard with a teaspoon. We're still picking up the pieces and feeling the sting of this disaster.

Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so terrible that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer level of unadulterated absurdity and just throws its hands up, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping defense.

Thousands were buried beneath rubble, their fate unknown. The magnitude of the disaster was unprecedented, forcing survivors to grapple a future forever changed.

Worst Day Ever

It all started with the case of bedhead hair. I couldn't do it to look right. As I was getting ready out the door, I stumbled and spilled all over the carpet. To make matters worse, I was completely late for a very important appointment.

By the time I reached my destination, I was utterly defeated. This day, this atrocious day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible

It all started out badly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then it went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
